In this film, we follow a woman’s path to self-discovery amidst the chaos of her eccentric family. Alexis Fish, portrayed by Gina Rodriguez, finds herself financially strained and emotionally shattered following the death of her unfaithful husband. She juggles a job as a phone sex operator while embodying a walking meatball hero. Returning to her Brooklyn roots for the funeral of a distant aunt, Alexis dreads revealing to her family, especially her domineering mother played by Priscilla Lopez, the disarray her life has become. With the support of her whimsical sister Kayla, played by Ana Ortiz, and a budding romance with a new suitor, Steven Strait, Alexis learns that she must release her past to carve out her own future.
