Passing
Set in 1920s New York, this film explores the complex relationship between two childhood friends, Irene and Clare, who reconnect after years apart. Both women are of African-American descent, but Clare has been “passing” as white, leading to a life filled with secrecy and tension. The film stars Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga, whose performances bring depth to this exploration of racial identity and societal norms. Directed by Rebecca Hall, the movie is a poignant adaptation of Nella Larsen’s novel. For those interested, it can be viewed for free on Soap2day.
