Packed In A Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson
The film explores the life of artist Edith Lake Wilkinson, who was institutionalized in 1924 and subsequently vanished from public view. Her belongings were stored in trunks and sent to a family member in West Virginia, where they remained untouched in an attic for four decades. Edith’s great-niece, Jane Anderson, an Emmy Award-winning writer and director, was raised amidst Edith’s artwork, which her mother had discovered and preserved from that dusty attic. The narrative follows Jane’s extensive quest to unravel the enigma of Edith’s hidden life, to bring her artwork back to Provincetown, and to ensure that Edith’s artistic contributions receive the recognition they deserve in the broader art community.
