Many people were opposed to the leather-jacket-wearing, spiky-haired, tattooed youth. However, this did not deter an entire generation. Few could have predicted that a small venue in Costa Mesa, CA, would give rise to a multi-billion dollar youth culture that continues to thrive today. This was the Cuckoo’s Nest of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Using a mix of archival, previously unseen, and new footage, the filmmakers have crafted a personal narrative about the origins of a movement, a sanctuary for youth culture, a frightened establishment, and a police force that was baffled by the unfolding events.
