American Mystic

This documentary explores the lives of three young individuals who belong to unconventional religious groups and have distanced themselves from mainstream American society to fully embrace their spiritual beliefs. The film is set against the backdrop of quintessentially American yet economically challenged landscapes, including the once-revivalist region of upstate New York, the historic mining areas in the mountains of northern California, and the rugged badlands of South Dakota. It weaves together deeply personal and non-political stories of these young people as they strive to live more extraordinary and mystical lives.
