In his first year at college, Brandon is determined to concentrate on his academics, but he repeatedly realizes that his true passion lies in dance. His nerdy roommate, Nate, suggests they form a dance crew, but their initial attempts to find other freestyle dancers are unsuccessful. Undeterred, they widen their search throughout the city and recruit a break-dancer, a performance artist, a Bhangra dancer, an animator, a ballerina, and a ballroom dance enthusiast mom to join their new team. A national dance competition, featuring Brandon’s former crew, Levelz, offers Brandon the chance to demonstrate to himself and his family that he and his crew have the talent to succeed as dancers.
