The 24th
“The 24th” presents a compelling and relevant true narrative about the all-black Twenty-Fourth United States Infantry Regiment and the 1917 Houston Riot. This historical event was a rebellion by 156 African American soldiers who reacted against the severe violence and mistreatment inflicted by Houston police officers. The two-hour conflict resulted in the deaths of nine civilians, four police officers, and two soldiers, culminating in the largest murder trial ever recorded. This trial led to the execution of nineteen men and life imprisonment for forty-one others.
