The End of Meat
Despite mounting evidence of the detrimental effects of meat consumption on both the planet and human health, and the worsening state of animal welfare, humanity’s infatuation with burgers, steaks, nuggets, and chops persists. In “The End of Meat,” filmmaker Marc Pierschel sets out on a quest to explore the potential consequences of a world without meat on the environment, animals, and ourselves. He encounters Esther the Wonder Pig, an internet sensation; engages with trailblazers of the vegan movement in Germany; explores India’s first entirely vegetarian city; observes rescued farm animals relishing their newfound freedom; and witnesses innovators crafting meat and dairy alternatives without using animals, including “bacon” sourced from the ocean, among other things. “The End of Meat” uncovers the concealed effects of meat consumption, examines the possibilities and advantages of adopting a more compassionate diet, and poses important questions about the future role of animals in our society.
